Those who love to walk in the countryside will agree that walking in Kato Koufonissi is exquisite. The route is similar all along the length of the lower island. In Kato Koufonissi you will see nature develop freely, as human intervention is minimal compared to other inhabitable islands. On your route you are very likely to encounter few to no visitors.
Arriving at the first stop of the lantzas, at 'Panagia' you will notice the chapel of Panagia. Heading towards the simple and unpretentious church, you continue along the path following the serenity of the landscape. After about 1,300 metres you will reach Kastelli beach. A small beach at the closest point of the two islands, about 200 meters from Pano Koufonissi.
In the opposite direction you can walk to the second stop of the lantza, 'Nero', about 2.5 km. You will cross the old village, pass the beaches of 'Laki' and 'Detis', find yourself in open nature, climb hills with wonderful views, make a stop at the stunning hill 'Alonistria', avoid going down to the beach 'Nero' which will be visible on your left, to get to know the beach 'Pezoulia' by continuing on.
We would suggest you have a good breakfast before setting off on this nice adventure. Bring with you, water, hat and closed shoes. When you feel the need to return, you will go to the beach 'Nero' from where the boat takes visitors every 2 hours to the taverna 'Venetsanos' of Kato Nisi or to Pano Koufonissi.
